Getting More Fruit

With summer coming, it is easier to start incorporating fruit into your diet. So much more is available now like fresh strawberries.

Think outside of the normal when adding fruit to your diet. Fruit can be the main part of your dinner when you top some greens with mixed berries and mandarin orange slices and add grilled chicken. Believe me, this all goes together and is very delicious.

Another great idea for getting your fruit servings any time of day is to get out your blender and make yourself a pitcher full of smoothies. Transfer it from the blender to a quart sized bottle with a lid (so you can shake it before serving) and you have smoothies ready whenever you are in the mood. It makes a great pick-me-up for the mid-afternoon hunger pangs.

Fruit smoothies can be made from any combination of fruits, even frozen fruits. Add some non-fat yogurt to make it creamy or soy or almond milk to add nutrients. Experiment with combinations and try fruits you are not familiar with. You might discover a new favorite!

Lighter Eating

A wonderful light recipe for the warmer weather is this one for Garlic chicken with cucumbers . It is a light yet satisfying dish that tastes fancy but is easy to make.

Mixing fruit with protein in your dinner entree is an interesting idea and you will be surprised at how tasty it is. This garlic chicken recipe also includes grapes. The combination makes for a really nice blend of flavors.

Make sure to buy locally grown produce. Not only are you helping to support local farmers, but you are getting a good value and fresher produce!
